Research Projects

2017-19

The prehistoric cemetery of Kato Samikon-Kleidi, near Olympia

Co-director together with Mrs Eleni Papakonstantinou (Emeritus Ephor of Antiquities). The project aims at the full study and publication of Middle Bronze Age built tombs and a Mycenaean tholos excavated in the 1980s at the foot of the prehistoric acropolis of Kato Samikon-Kleidi, in Elis.

2016-17

The technology of Early Cycladic marble

Co-director together with Dr K. Manteli (National Archaeological Museum). The project aimed at the systematic use of analytical techniques for the identification of tool traces and remains of pigments on the surface of Cycladic marble figurines and vessels. More than 150 samples from both museums were examined with XRF, micro-Raman, FTIR, macro-XRF and other techniques. The results will be published soon.

The prehistoric tumuli of Marathon-Vrana

Co-director together with Prof. Emerita M. Pantelidou Gofa (Athens Archaeological  Society), Prof. Emeritus G. Touchais (University of Paris I) and Mrs A. Philippa-Touchais (French School of Archaeology at Athens). Project under the auspices of the Athens Archaeological Society. The project aimed at the full study and publication of the prehistoric burial tumuli excavated in 1970 by Spyridon Marinatos, their finds and the results of skeletal analyses. The project is expected to be published in 2019/20.
2012-17

Gold-working techniques of the Mycenaean period (1600-1200 BC)

Co-director together with Dr E. Konstantinidi-Sybridi (National Archaeological Museum, Athens). The project aims at the reconstruction of Mycenaean gold-working techniques, based on the results of microscopy, metal analysis and experimental work.
2012-15

Reassessing the Mycenaean cemetery of Deiras, Argos,

Co-director together with Mrs A. Philippa-Touchais (French School of Archaeology) and Prof. Emeritus G. Touchais (University of Paris I). The project aimed at the re-examination of the numerous chamber tombs of Deiras and the publication of unpublished finds and tombs. The project is completed and the publication is under preparation.
